Michgian Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), Office of Local Health Services
The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) seeks to protect, preserve, and promote the health and safety of the people of Michigan with particular attention to providing for the needs of vulnerable and under-served populations. The state staff for the Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Program is housed within the Division of Local Health Services. The department’s Health Administration component, which houses the Division of Local Health Services, contracts with 45 local public health departments that serve all 83 Michigan counties. The local public health units assess health needs, promote and protect health, prevent disease, and assure access to appropriate care for all citizens.

Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB)
In order to improve the health of the public, the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) has developed a national voluntary accreditation program for state, local, territorial, and tribal health departments. Through its accreditation efforts, PHAB seeks to improve and protect the health of every community by advancing the quality and performance of public health departments.

National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI)
The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) convenes member public health institutes and partners at the local, state, and national levels in efforts to address critical health issues. NNPHI is dedicated to the vision of improving public health through innovation.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is the nation’s largest philanthropy devoted solely to the public’s health, focusing on improving the health and health care for everyone in America.

National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is the national organization representing local health departments. NACCHO supports efforts that protect and improve the health of all people and all communities.

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)
The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) is the national organization representing the public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia, as well as the professionals these agencies employ. ASTHO and its members are dedicated to formulating and influencing sound public health policy and to assuring excellence in state-based public health practice.
